OtakuNews more gundam cafe's to open in japan

Bandai announced plans on Friday to expand its Gundam Café chain into the Osaka, Nagoya, Hiroshima, and similar metropolitan areas. The company will open a third Tokyo cafe at the main Tokyo Station's First Avenue area on Thursday.

There are already two Tokyo-area Gundam Cafés open at the Akihabara Japan Railway station and on Odaiba island. There was a Gundam Café — the first official Gundam-themed restaurant — in the Bandai Museum in the nearby city of Matsudo before the museum closed in 2006.

The Akihabara café receives about 400,000 customers per year with sales exceeding Bandai's 200-million-yen (about US$2.4-million) target. needless to say that if I was in the area I would go but sadly Im to poor to funt a trip to japan just to eat and drink gundam themed foods and drinks.

OtakuNews Sword Art Online PSP game out in march

Namco Bandai Games began streaming the second television commercial for its Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment game for the PSP system on Monday. For the game, original novelist Reki Kawahara supervised a brand-new original story that begins from the 75th floor of the floating Aincrad labyrinth.

The limited first edition version will bundle the "Together with Asuna Aincrad Date Edition" DVD. The animated disc will feature an original story from Kirito's perspective with "high precision" 3D character modeling.

The limited version will also include a "game special movie" CG anime DVD that ties in with the Aincrad story arc and game. A special box with exclusive visual art by original novel illustrator abec, an original game soundtrack CD, a special booklet, and an original custom PSP game theme will complete the limited edition set.

Namco Bandai Games will release this "live-in-this-moment-with-you RPG" in Japan on March 14, 2013. The regular and downloadable versions will cost 6,280 yen (about US$79), while the limited edition will retail at 9,980 yen (US$125). I think this is a pretty cool idea thow I would much rather see a game set in the time line of SAO but have no real conection to the main cast. it would alow the chanse to broden the game world and give the frachis it self sum more longjevaty.

otaku news we may get more gundam rage(age) in one form or another

The official Twitter account for the Mobile Suit Gundam AGE anime posted a rough sketch of the characters Asemu and Zeheart by designer Michinori Chiba on Wednesday. According to producer Masakazu Ogawa, the staff is considering plans for presenting more of the two characters' story in some form. The staff did not say that more anime has been green-lit. Chiba drew this sketch for these tentative plans, which Ogawa previously mentioned in September.

Asemu was the main character of the second generation in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE anime, and Zeheart was a major antagonist of his. The television series premiered in October of 2011, and it ended on September 23, 2012, shortly before Ogawa mentioned the tentative plans.

okay I know the show rely went down hill in the latter part of the last genaration and the second gen rely didint get much. so please dont hate me for hopeing that we do get more of the seconed genartion in anime form. out of all three I think the 2nd gen had the most potenchal out of the three to do sum cool stuff. But being that it was the 2nd gen it rely didint get the love it deserved. so Im going to be optamistic about this okay guys.

the pain of the econamy streches far

so far that evin bandai namco is leting 90 workers go this is relavent to use at otaku home becuse alot og games we buy come from them mysef and cloudsora(aka curt) are big fans of the .hack serres of games and of corse in more resent years the dynasty warriors gundam games witch are slated for a 3rd instolment hers the full story

game maker Namco Bandai of America is laying off 90 employees in its U.S. offices
The layoffs are due to the company’s previously announced reorganization where it combined its separate mobile and online game businesses into a single division. On top of that, the company has decided to move a considerable amount of game development once done in the San Jose, Calif.-based office back to Japan.

Carlson Choi, the company’s vice president of marketing, confirmed in an interview that the company had layoffs. He said the cuts were made because there wasn’t an exact match between the company’s needs and the skills of the employees available.

“We are partnering with external development studios out there because that is where the game business is going,” he said. “Our goal is to move into digital games and broaden to different platforms. The details are being sorted out now.”

Choi said the company remains focused on making its games more accessible, social, and personal to consumers.

The reorganization announced in August was notable because of the changes sweeping through the game business. Other companies such as THQ, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. have all made moves to increase their digital games businesses recently.

Digital games are catching on because they use different business models. Console games sell for $60. But online games are often offered free-to-play, where players can play for free and pay real money for virtual goods such as better weapons. That gives recession-hit gamers more options to control their spending as they go. Roughly 35 percent of game maker Electronic Arts’ business is now digital.

Under one label, the Namco Bandai team will develop games that run on multiple platforms, including consoles, the PC, mobile, the web and Apple iOS operating system products. The team will make a concerted effort to expand its presence in the social game market. The goal of having one group is to make games more accessible across more devices and to broaden the company’s consumer base, Kenji Hisatsune, head of Namco Networks, told us in August

looks like bandies going after knock off kit makers

(story from negee khiong)

Finally, Bandai deploys the most direct attack on pirated Gunpla brands: legal action against them.

From a report (in Chinese) by China Legal Publicity on April 23rd, a case was bought before Beijing First Intermediate People's Court on April 21st, where the plaintiff, Bandai (through its representatives) is suing two Chinese companies over their conducts of illegally manufacturing and selling products copyrighted by Bandai, and the products as mentioned specifically referred to Gunpla kits.

It's also mentioned in the report that before the court opened, the plaintiff, with the help from the court's clerks, displayed a cartful of original and pirated models kits for the judges' examination.

Bandai registered Gundam, its product series, packaging and manual printing in the Chinese government's copyright office on May 6th and October 27th back in 2008.

The first defendant is an electronic toy manufacturer based in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, which produced pirated Gunplas under its "TT" brand. The second defendant is a toy distributor based in Beijing named Huang, which sold the pirated products made by the first defendant in large volume. If convicted, both companies must admit, offer public apology, stop the copyright breach, clear its influence and compensate Bandai over their illegal act, which has caused the company huge monetary loss.

The first defendant argued that it *does not* know that the Gundam models are copyrighted by Bandai, and the manufacturing work was actually being contracted to another company, thus denying the accuse of copyright act. The second defendant, Huang argued that he does not know that the products are copyrighted by Bandai as well. Also, as a mere seller, he denied the responsibility of the copyright breach.

From the 41 items shown before the court, the first defendant *admit* that some of them were being illegally produced by them, but denied the rest (may be produced by other companies).

The court went on for more than 2 hours, and as the arguments became more complicated, the presiding judge rested the court without any conviction, pending it till another undisclosed date.

And so, the war begun. ^^; From the case, it seems that there's no room to escape for the two defendants. The argument of not knowing that the products were copyrighted is worse than a lie told by a 3-year-old, it's almost like they are arguing that they don't know know who Bandai is. Being in the same industry (toy and hobby), that's extremely laughable.

The manufacturer of the TT brand has admitted to the production of some of them, but denying the others shown before the court, so if the case goes on, the other pirated brands are going to be investigated as well. The result from this case is going to affect many other companies involved in producing and selling pirated Gunplas, that's for sure.
